Chloé Fiodiere, Deputy director

Can you tell us about your background and role at JTI?

I’ve been working with JTI for two and a half years, after previously managing another project at Reporters Without Borders for about a year. Before that, I worked as a freelancer in project management for NGOs focused on education. My background is in international business. As Deputy Director of JTI, I coordinate the project on multiple levels. I oversee development efforts with media outlets in Europe and Asia, manage international teams across seven regions, and handle partnerships with other NGOs. My role is to ensure that JTI continues to grow while supporting news organizations in their certification journey.

What motivates you most about working at JTI?

For me, it’s not only about the concept of JTI but also about seeing how media outlets around the world are struggling in increasingly difficult environments. Newsrooms in Asia, Europe, and North Africa face immense challenges, and we aim to provide them with a structured solution. JTI helps shift power away from platforms and back to media outlets and citizens, which is what drives me.

What is your long-term vision for JTI? How do you see it shaping the media landscape?

Our goal is to have as many media outlets as possible become part of JTI. It’s important that platforms and advertisers start recognizing JTI certification, so that certified media outlets gain advantages in algorithm indexing and advertising investments. By making JTI attractive and accessible, we can create an ecosystem where trustworthy journalism is promoted and prioritized.

What are the key benefits for media outlets that get certified?

One of the tangible benefits is our collaboration with Bing, where certified media outlets receive better indexing in search results. There are discussions to expand this to other Microsoft products, such as LinkedIn, in the future. But beyond that, transparency itself is a benefit. Demonstrating credibility to audiences and stakeholders strengthens a media outlet’s reputation. Certification also improves internal organization and best practices.
