Why do you think it’s important for media organizations to prove their credibility?

There have been some efforts to find ways to indicate what media organizations are credible, which ones people can trust. I think this idea of having a respected international journalism organization such as Reporters Without Borders, helping media explain what is transparent, accurate, and comprehensive, will give people the confidence to read and to trust coverage.

What is your approach to journalism at Times of San Diego?

What I’m trying to do in Times of San Diego is to provide quality news coverage and to bring the young audience in.

How does JTI certification support your goals?

Having the seal of credibility helps a lot in achieving that goal. JTI helps on that path to credibility. It’s good to have JTI certification because that is a signal to readers that this is credible content.

What role does JTI play for readers and journalists?

JTI is a check mark that readers can see and can feel comfortable about. It is also very important for editors and publishers like me to make sure that the ethical principles are not just assumed but are codified and followed.
